PETERS ALTERATION 2004

Heavy Proportions, Matt Textures, Raw Material
One element links Living, Kitchen and Dining

To meet a client with the same aesthetic leanings towards raw, heavy, matt and industrial was indeed a pleasant surprise! The existing 1970’s flat-roofed concrete blockwork house was cleared of internal gib-lined walls and the space opened with the aid of large beams with steel plate connections. The over-sized kitchen bench/table becomes the focus of the living areas – linking Living, Dining and Kitchen in one single object. Wet areas, storage and cooking areas are hidden behind sliding blackboard panels. Materials include greyed hardwood as wall paneling, steel, black recycled rubber flooring, and polished existing concrete slab.
Hard and raw. Definitely not slick and shiny.
